The IV Sagres Birdwatching Festival is within the scope of the project ‘Um Outro Algarve’, developed among an inter-territorial cooperation between the associations Vicentina, Terras do Baixo Guadiana and In Loco. This event is promoted by the Vicentina and the Municipality of Vila do Bispo and includes the organization of SPEA and Almargem.

Um Outro Algarve’ is a PRODER project which brings together the Local Action Groups ‘ADERE’, ‘Interior Algarve Central’ and ‘Terras do Baixo Guadiana’, represented by its managing bodies – the three Local Development Associations of Algarve: Vicentina, In Loco and Terras do Baixo Guadiana, respectively . This partnership is the result of a strategic vision that is based on cooperative work in favor of a region that is small in area but great in potential, showing the conviction of its partners on the importance of joint efforts to overcome the challenges that current times bring us.

This is a project for the development and structuring of Nature Tourism in the Algarve, which arises from the need that this destination has to diversify its offer, giving a boost to its rejuvenation and helping with the important combat of seasonality in this sector, which is the biggest economy and employment contributor of the region. The project aims to contribute to the maturation of this type of tourism, making it a solid product, easily noticeable and attractive to tourists. With these goals in mind, we divided the process into three levels:

    1. Organization of the Supply Chain- Creation of the brand ‘Puro Algarve’ that distinguishes the best products (handicrafts, natural and processed agro-products), services (accommodation, catering and tourism activities) and natural and historical heritage of the region. The offer will be organized through thematic routes, available on a virtual platform that will allow tourists to access information and even purchase products or book services.
    2. Quality Certification – Development of a Quality Management System, with the support of international consultants, to ensure our customers and partners the confidence in the quality and authenticity of products and services ‘Puro Algarve’.
    3. Internal and External Promotion – Production of various communication and marketing materials; organization of Nature Tourism events at regional level – Birdwatching Festival of Sagres, surfing event in Aljezur and hiking event in Monchique; strategic participation at the most important events of Nature Tourism in Europe; organization of press and fam trips.

This project will culminate in the ‘Bienal de Turismo de Natureza’, an international event on Nature Tourism to take place in spring 2014 in Aljezur.
